I Sure Don't Want to Miss Those Vegan Brownies 15.10.04 17:56 Kimya Dawson, my biggest musical inspiration and the loveliest of lovelies, is (for some reason) playing at T-Bones in Hattiesburg on Halloween Sunday at 4 pm. I will be printing flyers and spreading the word, and I suggest you do as well. She is great, and you should not miss her. She was a big star of the Moldy Peaches. Joanna Newsom. An elfin girl playing the harp and singing like a possum fairy. Sometimes I wonder about the period of intensity I experienced whenever I'd listen to the Beatles' song "A Day in the Life": I love to turn you on. And I'd have these funky dreams about David Hyde Pierce. Then I wonder about "Free Bird," the one song that'll make the reddest of the rednecks shed a tear: If I stay here with you, girl, things just couldn't be the same. For I'm as free as a bird now Anyway, for the first time, I will physically see and hear in person the band that found me at that magical moment during my teenage years, that moment when just the right band sticks perfectly to your soul and they won't let go. Not that bands won't do that anymore, but it's especially intense the first time. So yeah, Beastie Boys! Long overdue, I assure you, but it's been a tough struggle to get this far. I tried to see them when I was sixteen, then again at twenty--well, yeah, that was a few months ago. But now I'm twenty-one, and our circumstances collide for once. Although they won't have the same impact that they would have had on me four or five years ago, I'm sure it will be memorable anyway. Oh, and I am a wife and mother. Not really, but might as well be. I think I'm cut out for it! previous * next |
