Three Men on a Cross 01 Jul 19 12:59 p.m. I am wearing a peasant dress today. Good for me. I have this idea for a movie. Okay, the year is just barely in the A.D.'s, let's say, 33 A.D. The movie follows the lives of two men. They are good men at heart. Maybe one is sorta bad, had a rough start in life and finds trouble pretty easily. Anyway, the scenery is real good. You can feel the heat of the Middle East. Lots of shots involving sunlight. The men lead interesting but fairly normal lives, and they both end up committing crimes. These crimes are probably petty, crimes that would be foolish now. Or else, they were committed for a noble cause. Well, since it's a thing of the times, the men are sentenced to crucifixion. The day of their punishment is the final, climactic scene of the film. They are put up on their crosses, on either side of a third crucifixion. You've probably predicted this by now, but the punished man between the two protagonists in the movie is Jesus Christ himself. Boy, does he look dramatic! Crown of thorns, blood, the whole nine yards. It's very gripping. In fact, throughout the movie, there are several instances where Jesus is the background, doing the many things read in the Bible, his miracles and whatnot. I'm not sure yet of the purpose of this movie, but I believe that it will really make you think because you become so interested in the lives of the two ordinary men, and then there's Jesus, in much the same predicament as them. Maybe the point is that Jesus suffered like you or I (represented by the main characters) suffer, and you can really feel for him and his miraculous life. Or it could be just the opposite, that Jesus was an ordinary man, a teacher, no different from you or me (again represented by the main characters). I'm no Christian, so maybe my story's screwed up, but there were two people crucified alongside Jesus, right? I just wondered, what is their story? Who will ever know, but we could give them one. It would be a new perspective on Jesus, perhaps. It's an idea ... previous * next |
